“Freedom does not mean that we cease to feel pain, but that we have the courage to move through the depths of suffering and the pinnacles of joy alike. And as we allow ourselves to express whatever arises, fully and without judgment, we discover that what ails us transforms into what heals us…” -Nina Wise

Why might someone choose therapy?

The answer is as complex and diverse as the people who seek it out.

•Some people want support in reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety, or to process trauma.

•Others come to therapy to learn how to communicate more effectively, manage difficult emotions,

or develop new coping strategies for life’s hardships.

•Sometimes the motivation for therapy comes from a desire

to change behavior or thought patterns that are no longer helpful.

•The person or couple may want an impartial person with whom they can talk,

without receiving judgment or unsolicited advice.

•Couples attend sessions to strengthen bonds, explore their relationship dynamics, and clarify boundaries.

Sometimes they come in to navigate the ending of a relationship.

These are just a few examples of therapeutic potential.

In all circumstances, therapy is an investment.

Ultimately, the decision to enter therapy takes courage. It is a process that is slow and sometimes messy. You may encounter parts of yourself that have been pushed aside or buried, in an attempt to fit into your family or culture. You may be encouraged to allow difficult emotions to surface, as you gain resources for working through them. It may not be easy or comfortable at times, but with the guidance of a therapist whom you trust, psychotherapy can be deeply rewarding.

In each session, I provide a respectful, supportive, and collaborative space for slowing down and exploring all parts of the inner world, practicing new ways of being in relationship, and fostering self-compassion.

Utilizing psychodynamic, relational, humanistic, psychosynthesis, and gestalt approaches, my style is strength-based, interactive, and heart-centered. My intention is to remain curious and creative as we work together to meet your goals.

Due to the COVID-19 shelter-in-place orders, I am currently meeting with clients via video only.

The relationship that develops between each therapist and client is unique. Feel free to contact me at 415-255-2549 for an initial phone consultation so that we could determine if this might be the right kind of support for you.
